What's fun about this shot is that people often think the woman is teaching the children how to read, it was, in fact the opposite: the kids were teaching Sue basic words in their language (tshiluba). (See how the book is turned towards her...the Charlie Brown book was in French...they were using it to talk about the pictures.) In the village of Bulape, Kasai Occidental, Congo, Christmas 1979.

Thank you very much! The notes help me to remember as well.

I really like your work also...especially the more recent B&W. I've been wondering, do you shoot in BW still these days, or shoot color/digital and desaturate?

I'm trying to figure out if there is anything gained by going back to film on occasion for BW...

it's great you add the background to those photos, after reading them i see it is what i've always admired most in photography - the tru to life appeal..
