This is one of my favorite pictures. It is so calm. Gentle. Such a great sense of kindness and care. It reminds me of all the depictions of Saint Anthony of Padua ([link] )
It's interesting to me that it is one of my less visited photos though. Oh well!
Anyway...another interesting point for me in the photo is that this is actually not the child's father. At the time I was teaching in Zaire I shared the Peace Corps post with another volunteer...a completely smart and fun person named Hampton, who is pictured here with the child. Hampton threw himself wholeheartedly into village life, and enjoyed playing with the neighbor's kids like this one.
